How do welding squares get made?

In this video, I show you what really goes on at Fireball Tool by giving you a sneak peek into our factory. You'll see engineers, machine operators, and robots controlling the machining and quality assessment of my tools.

Square Production Step by Step

Step 1: Raw castings

This is how the production of your square begins. The casting is removed from the mold and cleaned off any excess material and imperfections.

Step 2: CNC machine

We employ advanced CNC machines to shape the square components accurately. Its precise movements result in perfectly squared and dimensionally accurate components. The machine making Mega Squares never shuts off. It's continually making these things. It's about a 10 minute operation to complete a Mega Square.

Step 3: Deburring

The squares undergo finishing processedto enhance their durability and usability, such as deburring sharp edges and removing any surface imperfections.

Step 4: All set and done

Once the finishing processes are complete, the squares wait on a pile ready to be boxed up and shipped out to its new owners.

Fireball Tool was born out of frustration

Year after year of working in the fabrication, ironworking, and millwright trades exposed me to problem after problem. The tools available for the jobs to be done just didn’t always live up to my high expectations. The only solution I came to was to craft my own, and this was the start of my tool company.

FAQ

What square size should I get?

Size of square should be determined on the size of material being used.

  • Applications with material less than 50mm: use 200mm squares or smaller
  • Applications with material larger than 50mm: use 300mm squares

What square material should I choose?

Aluminum (AL)

Pros

  • Lightweight (Ideal for welding on the go)
  • Resistance to deformation vs aluminum billet
  • Some natural resistance to weld spatter.

    Cons
  • Can be be damaged if dropped or if used in heavy duty projects.
Cast Iron (FE) + Dragon Scale

Pros

  • Great for heavy duty projects
  • Excellent resistance to deformation and raising burrs when scratched.
  • Some natural resistance to weld spatter.

Cons

  • Heavy (Not ideal for mobile welding)
  • Susceptible to rust.

Fireball’s new Dragon Scale coating provides the corrosion resistance of our previous black oxide finish with the added benefit of enhanced spatter resistance.

It’s spatter resistance needs to be seen to believed; it out performs even the best weld spatter sprays without the use of any sprays.

Are there any square accessories included?

Yes, all squares come with Edge Location Tabs and Tool-less thumbscrews (except for 3-Axis Square which has a different use).

Edge Location Tabs

Our revolutionary tabs allow you to align your material up so that you don’t even need a welding table! Don’t spend thousands on a flat table, just use our squares! Tighten the tabs onto the front or back of your square and you can immediately get to work. Sure, there are different jigs out there, but can they line your material perfectly in seconds?

Tool-less thumbscrews

But it doesn’t stop there. We reinvented the game by introducing our thumbscrews. Say goodbye to your hex keys and Allen screwdrivers and freely adjust the tabs with only your fingers!

How do you keep the squares from rusting?

Keep the squares away from moisture as much as possible. Use any good quality rust inhibitor to keep rust from forming.

Additionally, our new Dragon Scale coating provides the corrosion resistance of our previous black oxide finish with the added benefit of enhanced spatter resistance.
